Sourcing
Vintage Garments & Vintage Textiles
We source vintage garments and textiles from the UK and Europe through vintage wholesalers and markets, scouring through endless piles to source the best vintage. This is restored and upcycled within our collections using local partners to prolong the life cycle of the garment.
Deadstock Materials
In the fashion industry there is a mass over production of textiles which ultimately end up in land-fill. At Granny, we are utilising circular platforms and partners based in the UK and Europe to source high quality and high end deadstock materials which are re-purposed within our collections.
Music Merch
We are working with leading music partners to utilise the excess merchandise from music tours which are often over-produced to meet the forecasted demands. Due to the date-sensitivity of the graphic artworking on music merchandise, if unsold they can no longer be sold - resulting in deadstock quantities.
Upholstery Materials
Granny’s history is steeped in the use of unconventional upholstery materials. Staying true to the original brand identity, we source within the UK for deadstock and clearance upholstery materials found through wholesalers, small businesses, also utilising preloved furnishings.
Recycled Fibres
At Granny it's important for us to promote the use of recycled textiles. We are working with textile mills in Portugal and Italy who are supplying our recycled jersey and denim material, produced using pre-consumer and post-consumer cotton waste. These mills are committed to sustainability, traceability, and innovation.
Production
We believe in repurposing and renewing, manufacturing our products in the UK and Europe.
We aim to keep things as local as they can be and avoid shipping overseas when we can. Working exclusively with second life fabrics and following a material-led process, we let the location of our sourced materials guide our manufacturing locations.
The first step in manufacturing Granny products is processing the materials. Our team spends hours sorting through the denim, leather or other furnishing fabrics we’ve sourced to pick out damages and stains. We thoroughly clean them, or, in the case of leather garments, send them to a leather cleaning partner who restores them to their former glory.
For the assembly process, we have established relationships with manufacturing partners in the UK, Portugal and Italy.
Our partners in the UK are truly connected with our brand’s history and ethos. They are passionate about their craft and help us to develop best practices when using second-life materials. Small production lines allow them greater flexibility and attention to detail.
Our leather manufacturer in Italy supplies, amongst their other customers, some of Europe’s high fashion and luxury brands. They have opened their warehouse doors to us to salvage excess stock, discarded production runs, and cancelled styles.
We also partner with a small family business located in northern Portugal. They take pride in their ability to handle the most uncooperative fabrics. They are also on the hunt for discarded materials to use for future Granny collections.
Some of the most artisanal pieces are handled directly by our in-house atelier, where our team can directly adapt the design to each unique Granny garment.
Our warehouse partner, ACS, is Europe’s leading circular fashion fulfilment facility, and bring specialised care to our products, ensuring optimum cleaning, and repair procedures between rentals, whilst maintaining the highest sustainability standards with regards to waste, water, energy, and people.
